SIF PREVENTION INITIATIVE

As part of Elliot’s ongoing commitment to safety, we created and implemented the
Significant Injury & Fatality (SIF) initiative. A SIF is defined as an event which would lead
to a life changing, life altering, or life ending result.

This initiative prioritizes studying SIF-Potential (SIF-P) events – which are incidents that have the potential to result in significant injury or fatality. By studying these events, we’re able to identify patterns and trends, and develop targeted strategies to address potential hazards. We believe a proactive approach to safety is the key to preventing incidents, and the SIF initiative is just one of the many ways we are working to keep our employee-owners safe on the job.

The 5 principles of Human Performance include:

People are not perfect. Even the best make mistakes. People are not perfect. Even the best make mistakes.

Regardless of our intentions and plans, all humans make mistakes/errors, and we fall short of achieving perfection.

We can predict, manage and prevent error-likely situations. We can predict, manage and prevent error-likely situations.

At the beginning of each New Year, it is difficult to write the correct date. This situation occurs each year and we are likely to fall into the trap. Because we recognize the likelihood of this error we can practice and prevent it from occurring.

Individual behavior is influenced by our Company’s culture. Individual behavior is influenced by our Company’s culture.

Culture is the beliefs, values, and accepted behaviors practiced in our Company. Our personal behavior is influenced directly by culture. The behavior of our leaders, supervisors and co-workers directly impact us and influences the behavior we apply each day.

Better results are achieved through the encouragement and reinforcement we receive from leaders and team members.  Better results are achieved through the encouragement and reinforcement we receive from leaders and team members.

Our team will achieve the best results when we examine and improve our own behaviors, encourage others to exert accepted behaviors, and continuously reinforce the behaviors accepted by our Company.

We can avoid making mistakes and understand why mistakes occur by applying the lessons learned from past events. We can avoid making mistakes and understand why mistakes occur by applying the lessons learned from past events.

We can avoid errors in two ways. We can learn from the mistakes made in the past, and we can take those lessons and anticipate errors in the future before they happen, applying the tools in Human Performance
